The 5 messages good marketing whispers

Lean in and listen

Good writing looks people in the eye.

And when you get your copywriting skills down, your ability to make filthy lucre kicks into high gear. If you’re willing to get your hands dirty.

This is because most people don’t write like they talk. Especially when they are in business.

Why? Because we have these goofy ideas of what “being in business” means. We’ve been hook, line & sinkered on the idea that you’ve got to be professional when you’re in business.

Well, hold up. You actually do need to be professional when you’re in business. But to be clear: you can be highly professional without being boring, guarded & stiff.

In other words: if you hold up your end of our deals and agreements and treat me and the rest of your clients really, really well… I don’t care if you wear rollerskates while you do it.

In fact, I would prefer that you serve the world on rollerskates. Talk about a unique selling proposition!

But even if you aren’t ready to be the world’s first rollerskating accountant, there’s still hope for you.

You can attract all the clients you want. Your favorite ones. And they will happily pay you top dollar for your jelly. Because they love you back and think you’re rad.

But to do that, you’ve got to take the cardboard out of your marketing underwear.

Because good marketing messages get down on the rug and wrestle with their audiences. In the most beautiful of ways. When you lean in and listen, here’s what they all whisper:

  1. I see you and I love you.
  2. Here’s me, I know what I’m doing or don’t but have the good sense and chutzpah to fake it ‘til I make it.
  3. I know that you’re in a pickle and that it really stinks.
  4. I have a way out of that pickle.
  5. Here’s one simple thing to do next if you want out.

Can you see how you can’t hide behind Being Professional to spread this message? I thought you might. Now, can you see how having this skill could really impact the bottom line in your business… no matter what it is?

Then you’ve rounded the bend. When you love what you do, love people, and love making a living serving the world in really big, meaningful ways, you can resist marketing… but Stella’s not gonna let you hide forever. Olly olly oxen free!

Mighty thanks to lipar lickr photostream for the whisper.
