How to start a rumor.

Loose lips sink ships – and get people reading.

Remember how rumors start?

Lean in.

Look to your left. Look to your right.

Lean in some more.

And with a twinkle in your eye, tell your confidante something totally hot and dripping with juice.

“Oooh, this is so good. Promise me you won’t tell anyone else.”

I mean, right?

We all know how it’s done, people.

The real knack is translating that kind of “delicious secret” energy to your copy.

Another way to think of this is: what are the best-kept secrets in your line of work—that you’re ready to share with the lucky ducks who opted-in to your house mailing list?

What is no one talking about—that you’ll happily dish on?

As a genius in your line of work, what’s the low-down?

This is what we call your “angle.” And, if the clock is ticking, a secret can work for a headline. An email subject line. Or help you generate a message for a teleseminar, sales page, or blog post in a jiffy.

Why? Because we humans are suckers for secrets.

Secrets sell. Secrets get people to open your emails. Secrets get people to lean in, tune in, and—if you’re doing it right—get an edge over the neighbors.

As a superstar at what you do, you have access to insights and secrets that the rest of us don’t. Forget about marketing. Remember to let the cat out of the bag, again and again. Before long, your readers will become your raving fans and clients, and YOU will be their not-so-secret weapon to success.
